The All Consuming Fire
Oh burn away
My sin
My God
Who can stand before Your throne?
The holy with hearts of love alone.
No evil remains within Your sight
No darkness can stand within Your light
The chaff is blown away
The wheat is gathered up to be
(in the)
(to refrain)
Consume me and fill me with Your fire
Forge me to be holy; one desire
Tested in fire the gold remains
Washed clean in the flame no sin - no stains
The dross is burned away
The gold is all that can remain
(to refrain)
Father lift me up!
Jesus lift me up!
Spirit lift me up into the
burning heart of God!

Greg's Story
..for no one can lay a foundation other than the one that is there, namely, Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, the work of each will come to light, for the Day will disclose it. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire (itself) will test the quality of each one's work.
If the work stands that someone built upon the foundation, that person will receive a wage. But if someone's work is burned up, that one will suffer loss; the person will be saved, but only as through fire.
1 Corinthians 3:11-15
Purgatory is something few people want to discuss, let alone even think about. So I felt compelled to write a song about it. Our God is a God of justice. When we sin in this world it has consequences, and often times these consequences are taken out on other individuals. To be sure, we do harm to ourselves too, but many times others are harmed far more than the sinner himself. God forgives us when we are truly sorry for our sins, but what about the damage we have done? How do we repay Him? How can there be true justice?
So, standing before the pure, holy fire of God, what parts of you would you like to be burned away? All your sin...all your wants...all your evil must be cleansed to be able to be in the presence of the all holy. You too must be made all holy. This is the cleansing fire of God! It scares a lot of people. So much so that they go to great lengths to argue it away. The Church says it's a reality and I agree with her. Even though it may be a painful experience, and even though it seems frightening, I look forward to the day that I am being purified, for I will then KNOW with certainty that my future lies in heaven and all doubt will have been erased.
