Lyrics: True Presence - 04 - Silent Voice

Silent Voice
Words and music: Gregory Stephen Popp

I am laughter
I am sunlight
I am snowfall
In the quiet of the night

I am moonbeams
I am playgrounds
I am joy unfelt
But waiting for the light

Momma, I’m here
Feel my heart beat
I can’t wait for that first moment
When we meet
Momma, choose life
And all that I bring
I’m the silent voice within you
Let me sing

You are sorrow
Fear tomorrow
You are empty
Yet I can fill your soul

She is barren
He is wanting
I am blessing
And I can make them whole

I cry out for the millions
Who have no voice
I cry out for the lost ones
Who had no choice

Greg's Story

This song was the "drive" that got me to complete the CD. Many people have heard this song performed by us and have asked for a recording of it. Well, it's finally here.

Obviously, this song addresses the abomination that is abortion. Just as surely as Herod slaughtered the innocent children of Israel, this is a modern slaughter of the innocents. It is the great shame of our nation that we, who proclaim that we are "under God", allow and condone this profanation. I have to wonder if all the trouble the U.S. has seen lately is chastisement for this grave sin. It is my fervent prayer and hope that this song becomes a legacy - an unnecessary memory because of the reversal of Roe V Wade. If this song somehow changes a mother's mind - somehow saves even one innocent life, my life was well spent. This is the song of the unborn. Of the silent voice of the little soul within the womb.

It was tough to write - not so much because of the subject matter, though that was certainly true - but because I could not find the right words, nor the right tune. I struggled for months to produce the song as the Spirit prodded me daily - yet I could not come up with a thing. I knew it was so important that it be written - and in just the right way. Then one day, I sat quietly down with my guitar and prayed that the Lord would show me what He wanted me to say and how he wanted me to say it. Like a waterfall, He filled me up and words and music gushed forth. It was an incredibly emotional experience.

The second verse touches on the young mother who is devastated and afraid because she's found out she's pregnant. Even if she decides that it's for the best if she not raise a child at this time, there are couples who would give anything to adopt her child. And what a blessing that child would be to both of them - if he or she only had the chance.
