Prayer of Saint Augustine
Arrangement and music: Gregory Stephen Popp
Words: St. Augustine of Hippo
Holy Spirit breathe in me
That my thoughts,
May be holy
Holy Spirit act in me
That my work
May be holy.
Holy Spirit draw my heart
That I love
What is holy
Holy Spirit strengthen me
To defend
All that's holy.
Holy! Holy Holy!
Holy Spirit breathe in me
That my thoughts
May be holy
Holy Spirit draw my heart
That I love
What is holy
Holy Holy Holy!
Guard me then, O Holy Spirit
That my life always will be
Holy Holy Holy! |
Greg's Story
This was another easy one for me - I didn't write the prayer, St. Augustine did. I have a special affection for the Holy Spirit, since He has given me so many gifts. Once you've been filled with the Spirit you get hungry for it and want that feeling more and more. I often receive it through prayer and music.
I have a holy card stuck in the mirror of my bathroom with this prayer on it. One morning I noticed how "musical" the words seemed to be and I began to think that it would make a nice song. I definitely love the prayer, and I hope you like the song.
May this prayer be your "daily bread". |
