Gone.
Just like a thief out in the night
Just like a movie reel unwinds
The actors stay within their lines
Strong.
That’s how our memories can seem
But details change from scene to scene
We’re never sure just what it means
Just like a movie….
The final scene it comes too soon for us.
What does it mean when we turn dust to dust?
No one can tell just how the story’s gonna end
Can this be all, or does the film go on again?
Gone.
The final theme begins to play
And all the faithful ones will stay
To watch it slowly fade away.

Greg's Story
I wrote this song years ago when I was in high school. I decided to include it on this CD because I felt it still was a good tune, and the meaning still holds true. It's an old idea, that "All the world is a stage and we are merely players". I sort of updated the idea to "All the world is a movie". It was interesting to draw parallels between the "event" that is a film, and the event that is life..
At the time I wrote this, my faith was not as strong as it is now (even as weak as it is) - so the questions come up in the bridge...that question whispered into the ears of everyone by Satan: is there something more after life? Of course, now, I'm absolutely sure there IS more - so much more. I hope whatever is whispering in my ear is sufficiently frustrated. |
