Lyrics: True Presence - 10 - Timeless

Timeless
Genesis I,Matthew,Revelation
Words & Music : Greg Popp

Long before the fall
You saw it all
The sweet wine and the gall
In me

 Long before the cup
You drank it up
And took the deepest cut
For me

You set all the birds in flight
You set a billion suns alight
You made an image of Your love
And you guide him from above

Hail Alpha!
Omega!
Hail Father!
Hail Savior!
As it was in the beginning
Is now and ever shall be
World without end….  [last time] Amen

Long before the kiss
You saw all of this
And changed the pain to bliss
For me

Long before the cross
You loved all of us
And knew the precious cost
For me

And you’ll return to lead them home
Back to the glory of your throne
You’ll cast the evil one away
And raise us again on the last day

Greg's Story

This song was another one that essentially wrote itself. I was thinking about the events of the consecration at mass - how all of time intersects at that one moment - and I began to realize the timelessness of God.

God created time. How bizarre (yet true) a thought. What was before time? Does the question even make sense? Since God exists outside of time, time is irrelevant to Him. To "be" at any one moment for Him is meaningless since he always "was" and will ever "be". This one fact is at the heart of what we believe happens in the miracle of the Eucharist. We stand at multiple points in time: Both in the "here and now" and at Calvary at the foot of the cross.

The song touches on how Jesus knew all that would happen to Him long before he became man. But he still came. The verse is a song of praise for the genius of His creation, and the beauty of His love for us. It also emphases that he came for each one of us - even though it says "for me", it means "for all". It just points out the personal love that he has for each one of us. Did he have me in his mind as he died on the cross? I bet he did - as well as each and every one of you.

I've italicized "the kiss" in the lyrics because I was referring to Judas' kiss in the garden. THE kiss. And "The cup" was our Savior's cup at the first Eucharist, as well as the cup of his suffering and death.

The last verse, refers to revelation. In which it describes the time when Christ will come again to separate the "sheep" from the "goats" and the devil will be forever cast into the darkness.
